Can women be Freemasons?
Yes. The best-known Masonic organisation in England and Wales admits men only, but there are long-established organisations for women, and some that welcome both men and women.
In Britain, the Order of Women Freemasons dates back to 1908, and the Honourable Fraternity of Ancient Freemasons to 1913. Both admit women only. Co-Freemasonry, which admits men and women together, has been active in Britain since 1902.
They share the same core principles of brotherly love, relief and truth, and they have their own charitable work and social life.
Each organisation has its own way of welcoming new members, and arrangements differ between countries. If you are curious, the best first step is to contact an organisation directly and ask.
